Between the Clouds: Lost Lake

I was looking to get out for either a long day in the mountains or a long run...Meaghan had never done the Lost Lake trail before, and I have this need I guess to initiate people to the beauty up there...We dropped the car at the fire station and stuck out our thumbs hoping to get a quick ride to the trail head. I was shocked by how many people passed us, and to add insult actually waved as they went by....I didn't want to play waving games, I wanted a freaking ride...idiots!

I think though maybe fate was just waiting for Dan to come by in his massive blue pick up truck...because only with a truck like that were we able to drive, and not swim to the trail head. He was telling us how the there is a lake that builds back under the snow glacier and every two years like clockwork it lets loose and floods the river....I swear the water was at least 3-4 feet deep on the Primrose road...lucky for us we were in a big truck and he just cruised through it.

Although we made it above the fog, we never could quite escape the next cloud layer, it was stubbornly stuck to the mountains at about the 4000 foot level...but we could see the glaciers spilling to the bottom of the valleys...it was very nice!

Two Girls and One Dog: Running Lost Lake

I was planning on running Lost Lake today by myself, but the day before Krista said she had never done Lost Lake and has always wanted to....it was so perfect. Although we have never ran a single mile together we decided to go for it and left town at a reasonable hour to try and beat the heat.

Its pretty hazy down toward Seward too, all the mountains look very subdued behind the haze.

Kenai Lake

The uphill part of this run felt longer than it usually does and I kept telling Krista that only one more hill and then we would pop out of the trees, by the 5th time we still hadn't popped out, I wasn't even convincing myself anymore.

Krista and I finally Leave the Trees

The air blew so much more vigorously without the forest around to swaddle us...and I welcomed it. I was pretty much dripping sweat.

I love running. Its really cool where your feet can take you in a matter of hours. I especially like mellow runs where enjoying the view is as important as moving. Its nice to look at the flowers, take the random photo, and savor the moment.

Awesome day out, lots of chatting, no racing, successful hitchhiking, and lots of exercise. Although Krista's longest run of the year was only at 8 miles, she did awesome with the 15 and totally sucked up blisters, chaffing, and muscle cramps to keep going...tough girl!!

Lost Lake

All summer Lynn, Tonya, and I have talked about running Lost Lake. Finally last week the day came.

Lynn's Action Photo's

Tonya, the non runner of us three, did awesome! And she was worried! Both me and Lynn giggled that she looked like the ultra runner among us, with her biceps bulging and zero body fat.

It took us 3 hours and we got to chat and pick some yellow salmon berries. Great day out! After the run, we easily picked up a ride with a Seward Local, and headed back to town.
